Data Collection

Clean Beauty Compass extracts ingredient lists (website content) from product pages you visit on supported e-commerce websites. Here's what we collect:

What We Collect

• Ingredient Lists: We extract ingredient text from product detail pages on Amazon, Sephora, Target, and Credo Beauty. This is publicly visible information displayed on product pages.
• Product Context (optional): We may send product name and category with an analysis request so scoring and clean-alternative recommendations stay relevant.
• Ingredient Safety Data: We cache analysis results and related safety information locally in your browser to improve performance and reduce API calls.

What We DON'T Collect

To be completely clear, we do NOT collect, store, or transmit the following:

How We Use Your Data

Ingredient lists extracted from product pages are used solely to provide ingredient analysis functionality:

• Ingredient names (and optional product context such as product name or category) are sent to our Ingredient Intelligence API and database to retrieve safety assessments, risk levels, and clean alternative recommendations
• No personal account information is included in anonymous analysis requests
• Your ingredient sensitivity preferences stay in local browser storage and are not included in anonymous analyze requests
• Data is used exclusively to provide ingredient safety analysis
• Data is not used for advertising, marketing, or any other purpose

Data Storage

Local Storage

The extension stores the following data locally in your browser:

• Cached Ingredient Data: Ingredient safety information and recent analysis results may be cached locally to improve performance and reduce API calls.
• User Preferences: Settings you configure in the extension (such as ingredient sensitivity lists) are stored locally in your browser.

Preference and sensitivity data in local storage stays in your browser unless you later choose a feature that explicitly syncs it with your consent.

Server Storage

Ingredient names and related product-analysis metadata may be processed by our backends, but:

• Anonymous analysis requests are not tied to your name, email, or Chrome account
• We do not store ingredient queries with personal profile information for anonymous use
• We do not sell personal data

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data to advertisers or marketers.

Ingredient names and optional product context are sent only to the services that power Clean Beauty Compass analysis (described below). We do not share this data with unrelated third parties for their own marketing.

Third-Party Services

Ingredient Intelligence API (Vercel)

We operate an Ingredient Intelligence API at clean-beauty-compass-api.vercel.app, hosted on Vercel. When you analyze a product, the extension may call POST /v1/analyze over HTTPS to score ingredient lists. Anonymous analyze requests do not include your sensitivity profile. Vercel’s role is hosting our API; see Vercel’s privacy policy.

Supabase

We use Supabase (supabase.co) to host our ingredient safety database, product analysis cache, configuration, and related application data. When you use the extension:

• Ingredient names and analysis-related data may be sent to Supabase via secure HTTPS connections
• No Chrome account credentials are included in these queries
• All data transmission is encrypted
• Supabase's privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy

Browser Permissions

Clean Beauty Compass requires the following browser permissions to function:

• storage: To store preferences (such as sensitivities) and cache analysis-related data locally for performance
• Host permissions (supabase.co): To query our ingredient database, product analysis cache, clean-product alternatives, and configuration
• Host permissions (clean-beauty-compass-api.vercel.app): To call our Ingredient Intelligence API for scoring

Supported retailer sites (Amazon, Sephora, Target, and Credo Beauty) are accessed through the extension’s content scripts on product pages you visit. These permissions are used exclusively for the extension's core functionality.

Data Security

We take data security seriously:

• All data transmission uses secure HTTPS connections
• No personal information is collected or stored
• Local storage is contained within your browser
• We follow industry best practices for data security

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Uninstall the Extension: You can remove the extension at any time through your browser's extension management settings
• Clear Local Data: You can clear the extension's local storage through your browser settings
• Disable the Extension: You can disable the extension without uninstalling it

Since we don't collect personal information, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete.

Children's Privacy

Clean Beauty Compass is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
